I had the fortune of seeing Wayman, left with the Round Mound of Rebound, play in high school at Booker T. Washington in Tulsa. “Booger T” as everyone called it. Back then, he and Mark Price were the shit in Oklahoma. Price was an awesome shooter, but I’d never seen a 6-9 guy bring the ball upcourt and handle it with such grace like Wayman. Never seen a big man with game like his. All American at OU. NBA star with the Phoenix Suns. Wayman was silky smooth. Just like his music. With the exception of Stanley Clarke, ain’t too many jazz bassist on his level. More importantly, he’s a class act and this story tells why.
