Drama King Goes Prime Time

We needed a little pick me up laugh. Thanks Prime.
Has Deion Sanders lost his mind and gone the Warren Sapp route? Twitter is blazing as we speak because the NFL analyst tweeted about his wife and friends “jumping” him. Now he’s pressing charges and going to the popo. WTF?

Calling For His Head

Magic Johnson showed his true colors. On the set of ABC’s NBA show Sunday, Johnson told viewers how appalled he was by the actions of Metta World Peace (and Andrew Bynum last season in Dallas, where he took out J.J. Barea during the playoffs), then saying World Peace should only be suspended 2 games. Come again?
Members of the Oklahoman staff are saying Metta World Peace should be suspended “indefinitely.” They’re obviously showing their true colors. One says 10 games, meaning MWP wouldn’t be available for a possible 2nd-round matchup between the Lakers and the Thunder. Thunder beat writer Darnell Mayberry seems to the voice of reason, saying 5 games. We concur.

NBA Stars In Olympics: ‘Stupid’

A week ago, I listened to an outrageous sports-talk radio host rage about the greed of Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen for barking about playing in the Olympics for free. Worst, the radio host started comparing playing in the Olympics as an honor of serving your country just like fighting in a war. Stupid doesn’t begin to describe the latter. There isn’t ANYTHING that compares to war.
Mark Cuban has vehemently complained about this issue before. He’s right. And if it were up to Cuban, NBA players wouldn’t even be in the games. We find nothing wrong with that either.
Corporate America, the networks, Nike and many others rake in millions for serving their country (cough, cough), but the NBA players are expected to give away their services for free?

High Times

Is that you Barry?
It’s been only 5 years since my daughter had to explain to me what 420 meant. “Seriously Dad? You don’t know?” I can still hearing her saying.
Lots of athletes will be celebrating today. We hate to bust anyone, but 1 of our favorite stories is a bud of ours sitting in a Mercedes and smoking a fatty back in the day with Chili Davis.
We’ll just indulge in a glass or 2 of wine to celebrate.
Cheers!

Reefer Madness

What dopes. But it’s just in time for the 420 celebration.
This marijuana “epidemic” is out of control and ruining college football. At least that’s the nonsense ESPN The Magazine would have you believe. Shame on you guys. I would expect a more progressive attitude, but I sometimes forget you’re owned by Disney.

The Big Hole In Sox

The Red Sox and Manager Bobby Valentine are a mismatch. Bobby V and any club is a mismatch. This had disaster written all over it from the start. Questioning the commitment of Kevin Youkilis? That’s about as insane as Jim Rome recently comparing Stan Van Gundy to Red Auerbach.

Kobe: Put A Ring On It

A tweet today from TeamKB24 to Chris Paul, who apparently didn’t see any Clipper hats after a trip to some L.A.-area mall: “When Clippers win a ring maybe you’ll see those hats in a city owned by 16x champs.”

Spin It

With yesterday’s committment by Shabazz Muhammad and the recent one by Kyle Anderson, UCLA and its fans have high hopes of returning to the high life in college basketball. As much as we’d like to share in their enthusiasm, and we do to a certain extent, we’re still bummed Ben Howland is the Bruins coach. But blame Dan Guerrero for that 1 since both should have been shown the door after this past season’s fiasco and the circus-like atmosphere surrounding the program.
The good news, though, is the pressure is on Howland to produce next season despite the pass he has received from the L.A. media. Obviously, if he doesn’t, you can bet the farm he’s history and maybe someone at UCLA will have the balls to boot Guerrero, too. Howland, who apparently went to the same school for offensive strategy as Mike Brown, has even promised to open up the offense. We’ll believe it when we see it. But for the players sake, let’s hope the Bruins are as fun to watch as the talent they have stockpiled. Maybe even Howland can’t screw that up.

Chairman Of The Boards

And another beatdown by the Lakers of the Spurs. And no Kobe?
Andrew Bynum’s hot line: 30 rebounds (8 on the offensive end), 16 rebounds and 2 blocks. He also dropped a “I shot like shit” on live TV in L.A. Wonderful. Still, Bynum became only the 5th Laker to haul down 30 boards. Wilt did it 16 times, so…
Critics in the City of Angels have been riding his ass like they did Matt Kemp 2 years ago, so we know how that worked out. But we’ll give our biggest assist to Steve Blake, who prevented Bynum from launching that 3-pointer at the end of the contest.
