Cash Money Homie

Floyd Mayweather Jr. tops Sports Illustrated’s list of the athletes who have bagged the most coin over the past year. And Mayweather has earned his estimated $90 million without a single commercial endorsement.

‘It Has Been A Great Ride’

Some of you youngsters might not realize that Dr. Jack Ramsay engineered and coached the Portland Trail Blazers, with a redheaded center name Bill Walton dominating the paint (Memphis Coach Lionel Hollins also was on that club), to the NBA title in 1977 in an upset of Dr. J and the Philadelphia 76ers.
No NBA announcer possesses the knowledge of Dr. Jack, who is famous for many things in the NBA, trading the greatest of all time, Wilt Chamberlain, being among them. And none is more easy on the ears than the 88-year-old wonder of the game, who apparently has announced his last game due to health reasons.
As much as we like Hubie Brown, he’s no Dr. Jack. No one is. He will be sorely missed for his insight and commentary, particularly on radio, where he was at his best, on the greatest game in the world.

Meanwhile, Back At The Woods Sted…

The reactions of the guy in the green jack and his good friend are priceless. For the record, it was taken during the Masters.
It’s good to be Tiger Woods again, particularly when you have Lindsey Vonn, the media and Sergio Garcia slobbering all over you. OK, maybe not Sergio. But you get the point. Earlier in the week, Tiger was all the rage for getting drunk and being somebody at a party with Lindsey. Today, everyone is singing his praises again.

Angels Dust

Is that you Richard Petty? Didn’t think so.
WTF Arte Moreno? Initially, you were considered 1 of the best owners in sports, but your shit swims downstream quicker than Drano.
The Angels are off to a bad start again and Arte apparently is taking it out on sportswriters who cover the team, burying them in the right-field bleachers. Guess you can’t blame Tony Reagins for everything, no? Besides, did you consider maybe taking much of that coin to sign Zack Greinke instead of Josh Hamilton? Didn’t think so. By the way, how much would you pay me to be the GM? I could save you more grief than Jerry Dipoto. Seriously.
Arte has the red ass about what T.J. Simers writes. You’d think Arte was a smarter man than that, but no.
Anyway, they’ve won 3 in a row and they’re jacking off in their pants, and keep hope alive Angels’ fans. But last time we checked you’re still in the rearview mirror of the Rangers and A’s. And with that pitching staff and bullpen…
    Oh, and another T.J. column.

May Day? Maybe Not

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a 7-1 favorite to beat Robert Guerrero on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Easy money, right? Maybe not. Despite the huge odds, plenty of folks are predicting an upset by Guerrero. Many believe Guerrero and Mayweather’s frequency to not fight as much (it will be a year since his last fight) will finally catch up with him.
We’ll say this about Guerrero. We love him calling out Mayweather about his abusive behavior toward women.
Some predictions from entertainment, sports and media types.

No Shit Sherlock?

Reminds me of my field and of course life in general for black folks.
African American coaches rarely get a 2nd chance, unlike their white counterparts, to land gigs as head coaches or coordinators in the NFL after they are fired, according to a study. What else is new?

Lawd Have Mercy

For the record, I seriously can’t comprehend all of the comparisons of Jason Collins to Jackie Robinson. Ludicrous.
I’ve read some curious (and insane) reactions to Collins coming out. But the 1 regarding former Packer Leroy Butler might take the cake.

Gay Pride

Jason Collins: “Pro basketball is a family. And pretty much every family I know has a brother, sister or cousin who’s gay. In the brotherhood of the NBA, I just happen to be the one who’s out.”
After all of the applause dies down for Collins coming out, I’m curious to see which NBA team will sign him. Collins, who grew up in the L.A. area, is a free agent.
