He gets our vote in the NL and we don’t believe it’s close. Thanks for playing Ryan Braun.

Welcome Matt: 30-30 Club

Centerfielder Matt Kemp became only the 2nd Dodger (Raul Mondesi was the other) to reach the 30-30 club with his homer tonight in the club’s victory over the Rockies. We’ve believed he’s had 40-40 potential since he reached the Majors, but he might not have enough time to pull it off this season. Kemp needs 7 more stolen bases along with 10 homers in the next 32 games.

Best Team In Baseball

    Phillies 5, Dodgers 3.
Don’t be fooled. The Phillies celebrated as they flew from San Francisco to L.A. yesterday evening after taking 3 of 4 from the Giants in a heated series. That probably led to some players up in the club, particularly some of those relievers. Hey, Roy Halladay sometimes is off his game.
Still, they had enough in the tank to take care of the woeful Dodgers.

Sure, It’s The Hitting Coach’s Fault

Where’s Bill Cizek when you need him.
The Dodgers fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland after last night’s loss to the Giants. How about canning GM Ned Colletti? He’s the 1 who signed leftovers such as Juan Uribe, Tony Gwynn Jr., Marcus Thames and Dioner Navarro. Colletti, with an assist from the wonderful baseball writers at the former world champion, also was the 1 blaming Matt Kemp for last season’s woes.
How about taking some responsibility for your own shabby work?
Granted, the Dodgers don’t have much to work with since Frank McCourt has no money, but blaming the hitting coach before he can finish his 1st season is just bush league.

Still Can’t Hit Water If They Fell Out Of A Boat

Could We Actually Witness L.A. Fire Sale?

    D-Back 3, Dodgers 2.
There’s Matt Kemp and then there’s the Dodgers. 2 different planes. And there’s Major League Baseball running the Dodgers. So does Bud Selig give the Dodgers a boost like he did the Rangers, going on a trade-happy run before the deadline? Or is it a fire sale to put the Padres to shame and drop the value when Frank McCourt is forced to sell?

Prince Charming

The man rarely gets cheated on a swing, particularly when it’s Home Run Derby.
    NL 5, AL 1.
Fielder silenced the classless fans tonight in Phoenix, where the National League won its 2nd straight All-Star Game.
“I didn’t take it personally,” Fielder said of Arizona fans constantly booing him for failing to pick Justin Upton for the Home Run Derby. “I think these guys (his kids) took it more personal than I did.”
Fielder’s 3-run shot in the 4th was the difference, earning him MVP honors. He also became the 1st Brewer to homer in an All-Star game. The D-Backs are now the lone club that hasn’t had a player homer in the contest. Seems appropriate, no?

(Almost) Hitless in L.A.

We’ve seen more scoring in the men’s room.
It doesn’t get any worst than this. The Dodgers and the Padres are 2 of the most punchless offenses in Major League Baseball, so it wasn’t too surprising to see another scoreless duel reach the 9th with both clubs combining for 1 hit. The lone 1 was by the Padres, but in the final inning, a strange thing happened for the home team.
Juan Uribe, of all people, broke up a combined no-hitter by Padres’ pitching, lining a double off reliever Luke Gregerson and over the head of leftfielder Chris Denorfia with 2 out in the 9th. Then, another big-time slugger, light-hitting Dioner Navarro, followed with a single to center to score Uribe for the game-winning run.
“I’ve seen some crazy things in my 9 years in the big leagues,” Padres second baseman Orlando Hudson told the Associated Press, “but that’s the way the game goes. So what are you going to do? You just keep playing.”
For the Padres, they might consider quitting. For the 2nd straight game, they were blanked by the Dodgers and suffered a crushing loss. Friday night, they had the bases loaded with no outs in the 9th and still couldn’t score in another 1-0 Dodger win.
“We Take Our Team Back:” An estimated 75 fans took their protest to Dodger Stadium to express their disgust with shabby owner Frank McCourt.
