We listened to the Floyd Mayweather and his fans swear Manny Pacquiao was too chicken to fight “Pretty Boy” in May. We weren’t convinced since it seemed so strange that Mayweather suddenly wanted to fight after running for the past 3 years or so. We figured he believed Juan Manuel Marquez had provided a blueprint to beat Pacquaio and now Mayweather finally would come out from behind his Uncle Roger’s skirt, but we know he still won’t come out to play.
Pacquiao also says he’s a liar. We believe it. Mayweather rarely fights any fighter in his prime because he’s so protective of his unbeaten record. And in this case, he’s still afraid of getting his ass kicked.
Regardless, we don’t have a bout between these 2 when we should be talking trilogy. Can someone, anyone, arrange for this to happen for the boxing public? Didn’t think so.

Nelson Cruz has developed into Mr. Clutch in the postseason. Three years ago, the Rangers put Cruz on waivers, but every other Major League club passed on him. Now he’s inflicting major damage on any club standing in the Rangers way of a World Series title.

Manny Ramirez and the White Sox are doing just fine. Ramirez got a bloop single, but Paul Kornerko, another former Dodger you might have heard of, delivered the biggest blow as the White Sox rallied Wednesday for another victory in Cleveland, Manny’s former home. The Sox head to another one of Manny’s old stomping grounds with a 3-game series in Boston this weekend. Fran Fenton and the boys will probably meet Manny with a limo at the airport.

All signs point to Chicago, where Manny Ramirez could join the White Sox as early as tomorrow. Timing is everything. Coincidentally (or not), Monday also is the start of the divorce trial for Dodger owner Frank McCourt and his estranged wife Jamie.
Manny split Sunday’s Dodger loss to the Rockies early. After coming up as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, Ramirez was ejected after 1 pitch for arguing that a called strike was a ball.

With the Dodgers putting Manny Ramirez on waivers today, it appears his 2-year run with the club is all but over. The White Sox and Rays are 2 of the clubs believed to be suitors, though we can’t help but wonder about the Red Sox, who were rejected this week by Johnny Damon. Regardless of where Ramirez goes, his short stay in L.A. was an entertaining one to say the least.

The return of Manny Ramirez to Boston this weekend evoked another round of bitter feelings among Red Sox fans and the local media. ESPN even allowed Curt Schilling to hold court during its Sunday night broadcast about all things Manny and why he wasn’t a good teammate. Still, without him, the Red Sox don’t come close to winning World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. For whatever reason, this gets lost in the conversation. Also, Ramirez apparently spoke with only 1 member of the Boston media. Of course that didn’t go over well either.

Imagine being the Dodgers today playing in front of a full house of grumpy Boston fans, some of them wearing Paulie Pierce jerseys, a day after the Lakers pierced their hearts for the NBA championship in a win over the Celtics. Then imagine being Manny, the 1st time he’s been back to Beantown in a Dodger uniform since being traded more than 2 years ago.
The boos rained down on Ramirez, but there were a few Red Sox fans who appreciated his contributions to the 2 titles they won in 2004 and 2007, when he was in the heart of their lineup and one of their most beloved players before it all soured. But the joy of watching him strike out looking with 2 on wiped out any feel-good story for Red Sox fans.
Boston beats the Dodgers 10-6 as Manny goes 1 for 5 (a single was his only hit) and can’t bust a grape.

Manny Ramirez checked into spring training in Arizona today and announced this would be his last season with the Dodgers. Whatever gave him that idea? It’s probably music to the ears of owner Frank McCourt, who is on the hook for the final year of Manny’s deal, which pays him $22.5 million. And McCourt is crossing his fingers Manny doesn’t miss 50 games for some female growth hormone issues.
