She’ll Always Have Paris

    Francesca Schiavone, the 17th seed, scored an improbable victory in the women’s finals of the French Open, beating hard-hitting Samantha Stosur today in Paris. Schiavone became the first Italian woman to capture a Grand Slam by surprising No. 7 Stosur, who had conquered top-seeded Serena Williams, Justin Henin and Jelena Jankovic en route to the finals.

Men’s Final: Soderling Vs. Nadal

    Robin Soderling will meet Rafael Nadal for the title of the French Open. Soderling, who handed Nadal his first loss at the French last year, advanced by winning a 5-set semifinal match over No. 15 Tomas Berdych.
    Meanwhile, Nadal advanced by defeating Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Another One Bites The Dust

    Serena Williams became the second consecutive upset victim of Samantha Stosur. Stosur, who knocked off Justin Henin in the fourth round, surprised the world’s No. 1 player today in the quarterfinals of the French Open, winning 6-2, 6-7 (2), 8-6.

French Toast

    Top-seeded Roger Federer was eliminated from the French Open today by Robin Soderling, who recorded a stunning 4-set quarterfinal victory, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Soderling upset Rafael Nadal in last year’s French Open before losing to Federer in the final. It is the first time he has ever defeated Federer.
