May Day? Maybe Not

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a 7-1 favorite to beat Robert Guerrero on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Easy money, right? Maybe not. Despite the huge odds, plenty of folks are predicting an upset by Guerrero. Many believe Guerrero and Mayweather’s frequency to not fight as much (it will be a year since his last fight) will finally catch up with him.
We’ll say this about Guerrero. We love him calling out Mayweather about his abusive behavior toward women.

About Saturday Night

Manny Pacquiao was a heavy favorite (as much as 3-1) to defeat Juan Manuel Marquez heading into Saturday’s showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Then Marquez shook up the world, and the betting public, sending Pacquiao face down and knocking him out for the 1st time since Medgoen Singsurat (who?) dropped him in the 3rd round 13 years ago.
This might not put an end to what was once a much-anticipated bout with Floyd Mayweather—despite Marquez and Pac Man discussing Round 5 of their duels—but who cares now? If anything, “Money” lost any chance of a meaningful fight with Pacquiao by running for years. The luster of it and a huge payday to boot just couldn’t coax Mayweather into the ring. You have to wonder how many millions did he hear rattling down the drain Saturday night.
Or maybe he’s like me and would rather spend a joyful day on the computer playing slots at www.partybingo.com than come out of the witness protection program.
Admittedly, we’ve been longtime Pacquiao fans. And like many, we were stunned with how the boxing legend hit the canvas like a bad habit.
Further, it ended the reign of 1 of the greatest punchers to come down the pike in decades. Fighters who suffer devastating knockouts like this never recover. Add Pacquiao to this long list.
He might fight several more times, particularly with the speculation he is having financial trouble, and he might win a few. But Pacquiao won’t ever recapture the glory and invincibility with which he fought before. Which is why Floyd won’t be running anymore.
Speaking of scumbags, could you believe Bob Arum had the audacity to pitch a 5th fight between Pacquiao and Marquez before Manny could even clear his head? We should be talking a 3rd Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, but instead we’re left listening to this carnival barker try to sell us more nonsense.
I refused to buy the 4th fight between Marquez-Pacquiao, so a 5th is out of the question too. Unless you’re asking me to take the 5th, and thank you very much, I’ll drink to that.

Ring Tones

So Bob Arum says Pacquiao-Mayweather will happen in 2013? And what gave him that idea? Surely not Floyd Mayweather Jr., who continues to sit in a Las Vegas jail serving out his 3-month sentence for smacking around the mother of his kids.
Arum, who has been as big a problem as Mayweather has in staging the fight, believes the cold war between the 2 camps is thawing. We’re sure Arum has had plenty to do with that. As we’ve said before, we should be talking trilogy between these 2, but since we’re not, we’ll believe it when the fight happens. Just another credibility issue that plagues boxing.

Shock The World?

Despite being a 4-1 underdog to Manny Pacquiao, unbeaten Tim Bradley is confident he’ll prevail in Saturday’s showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

And?

Is he getting the Barry Bonds head? Didn’t think so.
Mayweather beats Cotto? Yawn. Manny beats Tim Bradley. Then what? Still that song and dance about Pac Man won’t “take” $40 mill cuz Floyd says so? Won’t do as Floyd says? How dare Manny.

Wishful Thinking?

    Vegas says so.
Miguel Cotto is a 7-1 underdog in Saturday’s showdown against Floyd Mayweather. Of course he believes he will shock the world.
