Though they aren’t as ruthless and heartless as some of their good friends in the Republican Party, Roger Goodell and the NFL owners are close. Even before the players got a chance to see the proposed collective bargaining agreement, the owners paraded in front of the cameras to pat themselves on the back. Many in the media bought their line of crap and pressured the players to approve the deal.
Not so fast.

We can’t think of any sports star who has meshed as well as Drew Brees has with the city of New Orleans. And bringing the much-maligned city a Super Bowl title was just icing on the cake.
For that and more, Brees was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year today.

OK, here’s a small consolation courtesy of Saints’ finest.
This didn’t go over well with the Niner fanatics. They’ll say they should have won (and maybe should have, but its the NFL baby), unlike Mike Singleterry, who said after the game he’d never say anything like that. Perish the freaking thought.
Singleterry also stuck by Alex Smith this week after some vultures were circling the quarterback.

Despite the headaches and heartbreak that have plagued the City of New Orleans and its neighbors in the Gulf Coast region, the great people there continue to celebrate their Saints. And why not?
Though the Saints high-powered offense wasn’t clicking on all cylinders Thursday night, the defending champs had plenty in the tank on defense to slow down Brett Favre and his mates in a ho-hum 14-9 victory before a rousing crowd in New Orleans.
