So much for that Jets’ defense. And no, there won’t be a parade through the streets of Manhattan.
Peyton Manning and the Colts’ offense nixed those plans. With Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie topping more than 100 yards receiving, the Colts rallied from an 11-point deficit to upend the Jets for a trip to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami. Garcon, whose parents were born in Haiti, torched the Jets’ secondary with 11 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown. Collie finished with 7 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the Colts blitzed the Jets for 461 yards in offense. They also got a major contribution from their defense, which shut out the Jets in the second half.

While the brash and bold Rex Ryan continues to be the flavor of many, the quiet Jim Caldwell has been second-guessed from here to Miami. He’s in a no-win situation, particularly after he pulled the plug on a perfect season, but when the Colts beat the Jets on Sunday, some of his critics will give him a break. We’ve enjoyed the stories and the comedy act Ryan has staged since the NFL playoffs began and how many writers and broadcasters believe the Jets will be the Colts’ worst nightmare. Dream on.
The Colts are seething. They obviously aren’t amused with all the questions about the Jets, their highly-touted defense and how it will shut down the Colts and give its its one-dimensional offense enough of a cushion. But we like the Colts to advance to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami. It’s tempting to jump on that overloaded Jets’ bandwagon, and we can see plenty of reasons why, but we’re just too stubborn to believe they’ll shock the world again. We believe Peyton Manning and the Colts will show why they’re the better team. It might not be close (yeah, where have you heard that before?)
Our prediction: Colts 27, Jets 13.
