Stacey Augmon, the former UNLV great, returned to the Vegas campus as an assistant coach this season under Dave Rice. The Rebels are off to an 18-3 start, including a win over North Carolina.
Augmon, who had been an assistant to George Karl with the Nuggets, had been divorced from the program for 20 years before returning. The current crop of Rebels are benefitting from his knowledge.

Notre Dame knocking off top-ranked Syracuse on Saturday was huge, but Florida State upending No. 4 Duke and snapping its 45-game home streak on Michael Snaer’s game-winning 3-point bucket at the buzzer was a bigger deal.
And we see you Missouri. Going into Baylor and winnng, to take a page from Les Miles, is definitely big boy basketball.

Among them: Syracuse-Notre Dame; Alabama-Kentucky; Baylor-Missouri; Stanford-Washington; New Mexico-UNLV; and Xavier-Dayton.

Despite his success as a basketball coach, Bartow was best known as the 1 who replaced John Wooden at UCLA. Bartow passed today as his home in Birmingham, Ala. He was 81.

Is there any way UCLA can get Lorenzo Romar back in Westwood?
Speaking of Romar, we watched his Washington club, which looks like the best 1 in the 12 Pac to us, battle a tough Marquette team until a late 3-pointer killed them last night. And unlike Ben Howland’s teams, Romar’s play hard.
That’s are only complaint with Gus Johnson’s top 25. U-Dub should be in there somewhere.
