Fraud Vs. Fraud

    Proof that love is blind.
We couldn’t make this stuff up even if we tried.
The Clippers, the epitome of fiction, and Mike Dunleavy are trading punches again, with the club accusing the former coach/general manager of fraud and Dunleavy doing much of the same. It all comes down to Donald Sterling performing his best Al Davis impersonation and refusing the pay the money it owes Dunleavy. Why the Clippers gave Dunleavy the ludicrous contract they did is just another lesson in their history of stupidity.

Lorenzen Wright Found Dead

The body of the former NBA player was found in a wooded area in Memphis. Police are treating the tragedy as a “death investigation.” Apparently, Wright was a gunshot victim.
A 1st-round draft pick of the Clippers in 1996, Wright (shown above with his daughter Sierra, who preceded him in death) played with several NBA clubs. His last season in the NBA was the ’08-09 season, when he was a member of the Cavs.
The 34-year-old Wright, the father of 6, was reported missing on July 19 after visiting his ex-wife’s home.
Wright played college ball at Memphis. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Clip Joint Courts T-Mac

Once one of the premier players in the NBA, Tracy McGrady is seeking a home. The Clippers would like to provide one, extending an invitation to the former All-Star for a work out. Not sure what T-Mac has left in the tank, but he’s definitely worth a flyer.

Riding Coach With Clip Joint: Del Negro

The Clippers finally settled on a coach today. They tabbed Vinny Del Negro, who was fired after the playoffs by the Bulls, to take over, replacing Mike Dunleavy (and interim Coach Kim Hughes).
In 2 seasons with the Bulls, Del Negro went 82-82 and guided the club to the playoffs in each season. But a power struggle with Bulls President John Paxson led to his demise.

Courting The King Of No Rings

We continue to be stumped why he met with these jokers. Comic relief?
Seriously, how else to explain LeBron James and the Clippers hooking up? The Bricks are bad enough, but the Clip Joint?
Yes, the Clippers have some nice pieces, with Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman, and one day they might be a decent club, but they also have one of the worst owners in sports and they still have some dead weight, most notably point guard Baron Davis. They also don’t have a coach (they probably were leaving that up to LebBron), they’re cheap and they’ll always be 2nd city in L.A. Simply, they’re the Clippers.
Part of the Clipper sales pitch was having James imagine being paired with Griffin, who we hope avoids the Clipper Curse and has a healthy and significant career. But as much as we love Griffin’s game and his potential in the NBA, you’ve got to be kidding pitching a kid who hasn’t played an NBA game to James, who’s played so many without earning a ring.

Bringing the Heat and an air of arrogance: Pat Riley couldn’t resist tooting his horn. “These people [James and his group] need to see who we are,” Riles said.
Maybe see you for what your are? Maybe that would explain why the Heat’s franchise player, Dwyane Wade, was flirting with possibly hitching up with his hometown Bulls at about the same time Riles and his henchmen were meeting with James in Cleveland. Imagine the phone call from James to Wade.
“Dude, you’re not going to believe this,” James probably said. “Dude, what did I tell you?” Wade responds with a laugh.

Geffen To Sterling: Give Me A Piece Of The Action And I’ll Deliver LeBron To Clippers

Several reports are circulating today about entertainment mogul David Geffen pushing Donald Sterling to sell him majority ownership of the Clippers. In return, Geffen reportedly told Sterling he could deliver LeBron James if allowed to call the shots.
Peter Vecsey of the New York Post initally reported the story. But Sterling, according to many, would never sell the franchise. Too bad.
James could elevate the Clip Joint to a higher plane it has never experienced. Though the Clippers will never be on the level of the Lakers, with James and the club’s strong cast of Blake Griffin, Chris Kaman and Eric Gordon, they could enhance their status considerably in the City of Angels.

No brothers in the club?: There are rumblings in Cleveland about the fact that no African American sportswriters or broadcast personalities in the area are covering the King. Big surprise there, huh?
George Thomas, who works for the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, was taken off the beat last week. That doesn’t sit well with several African American sportswriters, particularly ESPN’s Chris Broussard, who called it “insulting” and “stereotypical.” With Cleveland’s population being more than 50% black, it is particularly disgusting, Broussard said.

Another Clipper Alum Done Good

No one is giving Alvin Gentry and the Suns much of a chance in hell of beating the Lakers, but no one believed they’d be in the Western Conference finals either.
Gentry has been a good reason for that, but spare us folks like Doug Collins, as he did during the Suns-Spurs series, drool over what he described as the outstanding GM Steve Kerr has done. Please. How many times has he screwed up this club? And he’s benefiting from the old adage of the best trades are the ones never made. Kerr was all set to deal Amar’e Stoudemire, not once but twice, for trades during the past 2 seasons.
And as much as Amar’e has played his way into a decent payday, one reason for the Suns’ success is that he is playing a little ‘D’ lately. Gentry is the reason for that too.

Will Clip Joint Give Him A Buzz?

It’s been no secret Mark Jackson wants to coach in the NBA. The Knicks were close to pulling the trigger on him two years ago, but decided Mike D’Antoni was a better fit. A similar situation occurred in Minnesota, where Kurt Rambis landed the job and Jackson supposedly was runner-up.
Jackson, who does color commentary for NBA games on ABC, wants to coach the Clippers. That makes him a unique candidate already. He lives in the L.A. area and once played for the franchise. He definitely would be an interesting pick.
“If the Clippers are interested that would absolutely be an ideal situation,” Jackson agent, Steve Kauffman told the New York Daily News. “They have a good roster and will be a very competitive team for years to come. It’s a great place for Mark to being his coaching career.”
Could Jackson handle the quirky personalities at L.A.’s second city? Could he deal with Baron Davis on a daily basis? Even better, would he be willing to trade the cranky point guard, who obviously has seen his best days, and let the talented Eric Gordon run the show?

For Clippers, This Is How You Spell Relief

The Clippers fired Mike Dunleavy as GM today, about a month after it replaced him as head coach with Kim Hughes as the interim. Clipper fans will rejoice at this news. Dunleavy has been one of the biggest problems with the Clippers. He finally admitted he wasn’t effective as coach when he was replaced by Hughes, saying his message was no longer getting through to the players. You don’t say?
Let the speculation game begin. There already have been rumors that Byron Scott might be in line to become the next coach, but the GM search will be just as significant since the Clippers are headed for another trip to lottery central.

Oh Happy Days: 3 In A Row

It’s not like the Thunder winning nine straight because these guys don’t have those expectations. The Clippers rallied against the lowly Pistons Wednesday night to record their third straight and no one in L.A. really gives a shit. Maybe Kim Hughes does. The interim coach, who won’t get the job when the franchise decides their pick this summer, is 3-5 since inheriting this train wreck from Mike Dunleavy.
But Hughes has fans. Like Clipper TV analyst Mike Smith, who doesn’t have a clue about anything. He gave Hughes a glowing endorsement (not that that means much) a few nights ago, saying he is the man for the job.
Rasual Butler (“I had to keep shooting”), despite missing 12 of 17 shots and 7 of 10 from three-point land, kept on shooting and finally delivered the dagger. As Tupac would say, break out the champagne and condoms. This one is on us.
