He Already Knows Who’s Rings To Kiss

Some college football coaches voted Oklahoma State 4th behind Stanford in this week’s rankings. It’s no surprise that Nick Saban is 1 of them, but Missouri’s Gary Pinkel might want to watch his back in the future. Pinkel also voted OSU 4th behind LSU, ‘Bama and Stanford. He’s already got that SEC loyalty thing down.
Stanford meets the Cowboys in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2. OSU has opened as a 3 1/2-point favorite. I think we’ll jump on some of that action. We could see a double-digit win.

With Ben Howland and the basketball team nose diving, his collar is really getting tight.
You think Jay Norvell, co-offensive coordinator at OU and Karl Dorrell’s offensive guy at UCLA, might have put a bug in Kevin Sumlin’s ear? The 2 worked together at OU, so it’s almost a given Sumlin asked Norvell his opinion about the UCLA job before AD Dan Guerrero came calling after Houston’s loss to Southern Mississippi. Or maybe it was the timing. Or just maybe it wasn’t a good fit.
Regardless, first Chris Petersen turns down the job and now Sumlin. Next?

Yes it sucks but until we get a playoff system this is the crap we’re stuck with. Blame your college presidents and those so-called institutions of higher learning.
We’d like to bump Oklahoma State past ‘Bama in our rankings, but for credibility sakes (I know, we’re really pushing the envelope there), the Cowboys’ loss to Iowa State occurred at the wrong time of the season. Granted, they played a tougher schedule than the Tide, dropped a huge game in circumstances unimaginable and captured the title in a rougher conference than the SEC, but losing so late in the season (and to Iowa State) cost OSU dearly. That’s why a playoff is the only answer. If not, it’s still mythical national championships, though me and Jim Gazzolo are the only old heads who use the term anymore.
We tip our cap with the way OSU poked OU. With a playoff, maybe they smoke ‘Bama and LSU.
1. LSU (13-0): Co-champs if Tigers lose national title game?
2. Alabama (11-1): As defensive as St. Nick has been, I’d fit his big head in a helmet for the showdown with LSU.
3. Oklahoma State (11-1): Beating the shit out of OU is still a pretty good “consolation” prize.
4. Arkansas (10-2): Yawn.
5. USC (10-2): At least we don’t have to hear Lane Kiffin crying again about all of the “injustices” the Trojans suffered by being on probation. Just take your punishment and swallow it like a man dude.
6. Oregon (11-2): If we were forced to watch an LSU rematch, many folks preferred this 1.
7. Stanford (11-1): We could see OSU pounding the Cardinal just because in the Fiesta Bowl.
8. Boise State (11-1): It must really suck to be UCLA when the Boise coach thumbs his nose and picks Idaho instead of Westwood.
9. Wisconsin (11-2): Matchup with Oregon in Rose Bowl should be 1 of the best during bowl season.
10. Houston (12-1): The song “You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Lucille” keeps playing in my head.
11. Kansas State (9-2): Cotton balls and Arkansas. There’s a joke in there somewhere.
12. South Carolina (10-2): Cocks rose to the occasion frequently this season. Always a good thing.
13. Michigan State (10-3): Already having trouble picking Sparty or Georgia in the Outback Bowl. A little help?
14. Baylor (9-3): Bears beat OU and Texas in the same season. And if RG 3 walks away with the Heisman, that’s really Wac(k)o. How much would that ticket have paid at the sportsbook?
15. Oklahoma (9-3): Your preseason No. 1, ladies and gentlemen.
16. Michigan (10-2): The sweet taste of sugar and New Orleans are a lovely combo.
