Then There Were 4

Does this mean more or less “discount double-check” commercials? What’s the over/under?
And could we actually see 2 brothers face off in the Super Bowl?
This we do know. It’s Ravens-Patriots as the appetizer at noon next Sunday and then Giants-49ers follows as the main event at 3:30 p.m. (PT).

InvisiBills No More

The Bills, Lions and Browns are among the big surprises of the NFL season so far. Even the Raiders, who ran the ball down the Jets’ throats, are making some noise.
But Buffalo and Detroit have earned considerable attention, particularly the Bills, who knocked off Tom Brady and the Patriots on Sunday.

Burying The Hatchet?

At least for the moment Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger are putting their differences aside. The 2 Steeler quarterbacks aired out some issues Tuesday in Dallas.
Look for this sit-down to be one of the most hyped interviews on Fox this weekend during its Super Bowl XLV coverage.

Steelers 31, Ravens 24

Give the Steelers credit for bouncing back and the Ravens credit for gagging. We should know better betting against these guys, particularly frat brother Mike Tomlin. But even you Steeler fans will admit the holding call on a Ravens’ lineman near the end zone is called almost as much as the tuck rule, no? I’m just saying. We won’t even mention the flag on the punt return.

Has Ben Plays Fictional Character

You’d think Ben Roethlisberger has better things to do. Like maybe spending more time on the Ravens and Bengals before his suspension ends? No. The Steeler quarterback took time to change his bio in the club’s media guide, listing his new hometown as a fiction one instead of Findley, Ohio.

He’s Ben Jammin’

Eminem is the latest figure to weigh in on the Ben Roethlisberger controversy. The rapper has a new CD out and offers a rowdy take on the Steeler quarterback, who was suspended last week for an alleged sexual assault involving a 20-year-old Georgia coed.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Ben Roethlisberger for 6 games, but with good behavior, which includes counseling, the quarterback can return after missing 4 games. Though Roethlisberger wasn’t charged in the much-publicized incident involving a 20-year-old Georgia college student, Goodell said it didn’t matter since the Steelers’ star was being held to a “higher standard.”
The Steelers won’t complain about the length of the suspension, but many sportswriters will do otherwise.
In his statement, Goodell said: “I recognize that the allegations in Georgia were disputed and that they did not result in criminal charges being filed against you. My decision today is not based on a finding that you violated Georgia law, or on a conclusion that differs from that of the local prosecutor. That said, you are held to a higher standard as an N.F.L. player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans.”

While Holmes Is Held To A Higher Standard, Media Apologizes For Big Ben’s Sick Behavior?

You just don’t trade a Super Bowl MVP in the prime of his career for a 5th-round draft choice. So what gives with the Steelers? They dealt Santonio Holmes because he smoked a little weed? Seriously, what’s the real story behind this? They could be watching the Jets celebrate a Super Bowl win next year with all the artillery they’re stockpiling in New York. But the Steelers won’t even make it out of their division, let alone earn a playoff spot. We’re betting they finish no better than .500, if that. But that’s beside the point right now.
Ben Roethlisberger? Can you spell S-C-U-M-B-A-G? We’re anxiously awaiting the ruling by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Will Ben be held to a higher standard than some of the other players who have been in the line of Goodell’s fire? A suspension is a given. But for how long?
We’ll let our friends at Sports On My Mind offer some smack that you won’t read elsewhere. Highly recommended.
