Alex Karras: 1935-2012

The former Detroit Lions’ defensive lineman, who should be in the Hall of Fame, passed today at his home in L.A. of kidney failure. Karras, who also suffered from dementia, was 77. While Karras is remembered by football fans as 1 of the greatest to don a Lions’ uniform, he also had a decent acting career, including a hilarious role as “Mongo” in “Blazing Saddles.” He worked at 1 point as a commentator on Monday Night Football.
