What’s Up With All The Player Hating?

This isn’t about money is it? Didn’t think so.
I sensed the jealousy during the NBA season, when Jeremy Lin became a huge story. Great. Or so we thought. I remain fascinated by the amount of animosity Lin provokes from contemporaries. And writers and broadcasters. Like the rest of us, Lin is trying to get paid and take advantage of opportunities. I understand he isn’t the best point guard in the NBA or doesn’t possess the skills of say Derrick Martell Rose, and the Rockets might be overpaying (might because you can’t estimate the gate revenues he will generate and jersey sales). I get that. But I don’t get the hate.
Or maybe I don’t get Carmelo and JR Smith. Why hate the Asian guy? Didn’t Denver give Chris “Birdman” Andersen some ridiculous (there’s that word again) amount of money years ago after coming off the bench and grabbing and swatting anything within the area code for a season? Carmelo and JR weren’t hating on him, so again, why Lin?
