Empty Wagon Makes A Lot Of Noise

Maybe Pat Riley should reach out to Phil Jackson?
The Heat are a loss away from a stunning meltdown in the Eastern Conference final. Like the Spurs, they took a 2-0 lead before losing 3 straight to the Celtics, including Tuesday’s Game 5 in Miami. How did it happen? Let us count the ways, but Erik Spoelstra is reason No. 1. He fails to grasp reality (“We’re at home. We’ll be OK” is what he told Doris Burke before the start of the 4th quarter last night) and his offensive schemes have been the Heat’s worst nightmare. Maybe mix in a pick-and-roll with LeBron and D-Wade with the game on the line or in crunch time? Ain’t happening.
If the Celtics prevail in Game 6, which is Thursday in Boston, Spoelstra won’t return as head coach. Nor should he.
