Though they haven’t received credit for it, our friends at You Been Blinded scooped this story before it became an international sensation. But that’s how the games are played in the world of the cut-throat media and blogsphere. Almost everyone races to be first and frequently fails to give credit where credit is due when they aren’t the first to report a controversial story. As much as we enjoy reading LZ Granderson, his employer (ESPN) deserves as much blame as any outlet since it too has ignored the source of the original report.
Granderson is outraged Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn’t incurred more heat for his ignorant and racist comments recently regarding Manny Pacquiao. Granderson also says Mayweather is getting a pass because he’s black. And he wonders why the usual suspects, such as Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, are silent when an African American makes racist and ill-informed comments instead of being the focus of them?
We’d never hold our breath on the latter. But as far as Mayweather getting a pass because he’s black, we completely disagree. Mayweather gets a pass because he’s a boxer. Simple as that. Though he’s young, he still brains scrambled as much as many boxers who have taken far too many shots to the head.
