Nah, Couldn’t Be Him

Clueless Joe Torre is rarely taken to task by the L.A. media. But that’s nothing new. Torre has gotten a pass here since he became Dodger manager. Nice guy, but…
On Wednesday, he figured his new toy Jay Gibbons, who he started to punish Matt Kemp for the 2nd straight game, would provide a spark after going 4 for 5 Monday night against the Phillies. Someone might have mentioned to Torre that Kyle Kendrick wasn’t on the mound again, but a guy named Roy Oswalt, who throws heat Gibbons hasn’t seen lately.
Predictably, Gibbons finished 0 for 4 as Oswalt and the Phillies, who are playing without Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, blanked the Dodgers in a 2-0 victory.
Just to be fair to Torre’s little pet Gibbons, he wasn’t the only Dodger to come up as empty as his manager. Andre Ethier and Casey Blake (what, no time out for him Joe?) didn’t manage a hit either. Actually, Scott Podsednik had 3 of the Dodger’s 6 hits, but no one could drive him in.
The Dodgers are 8 games back of the Padres. Anyone ready to hang out a white flag?
