Dawson Can’t Cut It

-
Chad Dawson has only himself to blame. While he is clearly a better fighter than Jean Pascal, Dawson left Montreal as a former champ as the smaller Canadian took the fight to him and won it on a technical decision.
A clash of heads in the 11th round, when Dawson was dictating, ended the light heavyweight championship bout when Dawson was unable to continue because of gruesome cut in his right eyelid. Since Pascal was ahead on all 3 judges’ cards, he earned the surprising victory. The judges’ tally: 108-101, 106-103 and 106-103.
An upset Dawson: “I’m not making excuses, but he was head butting and holding all night. We’re going to (fight) again. I’ll be back. I’m not hurt.”
The loss was the 1st for Dawson (29-1), who was passive for much of the fight as Pascal (26-1) was the aggressor for much of it. But Dawson began to push the issue in the 11th, when he hurt Pascal with a flurry and had him in trouble before the 2 men banged heads.
