For the first time in their long history, the New Orleans Saints are headed to the Super Bowl. Once one of the worst franchises in sports and a club fans frequently referred to as the “Aints,” the Saints captured the NFC Championship in dramatic fashion. Garrett Hartley’s 40-yard field goal in overtime was the game-winner as New Orleans advanced to the Super Bowl in Miami, where they will meet the Colts on Feb. 7.
The Saints won despite being outplayed in the second half by Brett Favre and the Vikings, who finished with 475 yards in offense to only 257 for the Saints. But the Vikings got conservative near the end of regulation, running the ball to set up a possible game-winning field goal. On their final offensive play though, they decided to pass, but Brett Favre got picked off by Tracy Porter, forcing overtime. You knew dat didn’t bode well for the Vikings.
